Happiness is not something to be achieved. It has always been with us; we are losing it frequently. By default, any human being is happy as per his/her natural state. In this hi-tech world, we have tuned and turned ourselves to such a state which is making us question our own default nature. We have retracted from our natural state of happiness.
Rather than asking how to be happy, I will answer why you are losing happiness. If you understand that, you will never lose it and will remain in your default nature at all times. Let me narrate a story. Once a man went to a saint by traveling far in the mountains. He asked the holy man, “Sir, I have a question which is bothering me. If you answer that I will give you 1000 gold coins which I am carrying in my purse”. He asked, “What is happiness? Please make me understand”. The saint was silent for a while and then grabbed his purse and ran. The man stood aghast and started chasing him. After running for a while, the saint stopped and sat under a tree. The man ran up to him and grabbed his purse back. There was an instance of joy on his face which brightened on retrieving his purse. He asked the saint what was wrong with him and why did he do so. To which the saint smiled and answered, “What you felt the instant when you got back your purse is what happiness is”. Earlier the bag was with him, but it did not keep him happy. But when he lost it, instantly his mind programmed that only if he receives his purse will he be happy.
You have programmed your mind into a computer logic wherein if you get this you will be happy, else you are not. You created this definition yourself and nobody is responsible for it.
If I get 90% marks
Then I will be happy
Else
I will be unhappy
However, the programming logic is much more complex as you keep updating with if and else conditional loops. You are stuck in your own infinite loop and keep losing happiness constantly.
If I get a car
{
Then I will be happy
}
Else
{
If I get this job
{
Then I will be happy
}
Else
{
If I earn this much money
{
Then I will be happy
}
Else
{
……
}
}
}
If there was never an if the condition for your happiness, there will never be an else condition and you will always be happy naturally without any external factor or influence.
